Support Breast Cancer Awareness & Research

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Did you know that today October 1st is the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month?  In case you don’t know Breast Cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast.  Primarly we hear about this affecting woman, it is woman of the one of top 10 causes of death among women, but it can also affect men.

A major key is Early Detection. Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms and do monthly self check ups.  There are many sites on the internet with information on the topic but I think the most touching facts are the ones that have come from the people experiencing and who have survived themselves.  Check out Munchkinheads for Tammy’s experience.  Tammy I personally know and I can say that just recounting the story itself has been hard for her, but she wants to get the word out.  The next woman Lezlee I do not know, but I found her journal, it gives a brief description of her journey as well as 10 Tips for Coping With Breast Cancer.  And last but certainly not least For You From Me.  It is my feeling that anyone of these sites will open your mind and your heart and give you a better look into the Breast Cancer World.

As the mother of a child with Autism I think it is important that we all take a little time to support each other.  We can do this by being a friend, being an advocate, supporting awareness and research so on and so forth.  Below you will find links to companies helping to support the cause.  These companies donate part of their earnings to Breast Cancer Research.  So check them out, you might be surprised to find what has gone “pink”.
